How to Apply Makeup to Dry Skin

I’m so happy to say that we have made it halfway through the winter! The cold temperatures outside combined with the drying heat indoors is not always kind to our skin.

You may already be seeing the telltale signs of dehydration in your skin – tightness, flakiness, or dry patches. Not the ideal condition for flawless makeup application.

So today I’ve put together some tips to help smooth and even skin for the most beautiful makeup application.

EXFOLIATE
An even foundation application must start with a smooth canvas. Exfoliation helps even the skin's surface by getting rid of any pesky flakey patches.

Try using the Dual Enzyme Polish twice per week. This exfoliating treatment sloughs away dull skin cells in two ways – 1) with tiny microspheres that physically polish the skin to improve texture and 2) with a fruit enzyme and AHA cocktail that help dissolve surface skin cells to reveal skin that looks and feels smoother.

Apply a thin layer of the polish all over the face, avoiding the eye area, and allow it to sit on the skin for 5-10 minutes before gently massaging in circular motions. Then rinse clean. If you’re short on time, just apply the polish in gentle circular motions and wash off immediately.

Either way, I love using the Dual Enzyme Polish because it makes my skin feel so soft and revitalized almost instantly.

HYDRATE
Now that the skin feels refined and smooth, it’s time to add the moisture that your skin is craving.

The Sheer Renewal Cream is infused with peptides and is a dual-purpose treatment to help boost hydration while locking down makeup for a longer, more flawless wear.

Its oil-free formula delivers hydration that is practically weightless. Plus, the smooth powder finish makes it a perfect primer for application of foundation.

And don’t forget the eyes! Especially during the winter months, you may experience some dry patches at the corner of your eyes. A little dab of the Complete Eye Cream around the orbital bone will take care of that! With the eye area hydrated, you’ll be ready for a smoother application of concealer and foundation!

For an even bigger boost in hydration, try adding the new Retinol Supreme Eye Serum into your nighttime routine. Saloprine 8 helps lock in hydration and has been clinically proven to increase moisture levels 6000% after a month of continued use. (Plus, it has the added anti-aging benefits of Retinol and the revitalizing benefits of Vitamin C.)

When your skin is feeling dry and tight, try avoiding makeup products with a matte finish. They can make dry texture on the skin look worse. Personally, I really like the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation or NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation. Look for key words like “radiant” or “luminous” in the title. That lets you know that it will have a more dewy finish.

REFRESH
Sometimes even the most glowing foundation can start looking dull around 2:00PM. If you need a pick-me-up halfway through the day, try a hydrating facial mist.

I love the Beauty Water because it is such a versatile product. It won’t cause makeup to run or smear. I can use it to set or rehydrate my makeup, and I also use it to dampen my beauty sponge or cool down after a tough workout.

It’s an invigorating mix of coconut water (refreshing), hyaluronic acid (plumping), and cucumber extract (softening). It’s like a tall drink of water for your skin!
