Eat Your Way to Better Skin

Everyone wants the benefits of healthy and glowing skin. We invest in quality skincare, however, we sometimes don't invest in a healthy diet.

It seems simple. We all know that a diet high in sugar and carbohydrates can cause us to pack on the pounds, but what we may not realize is that we could be defeating our beauty regime with a poor diet. Here are a few of my personal healthy food favorites to support healthy and beautiful skin.

Wild Caught Salmon
Why? To prevent acne and protect skin
Salmon is an excellent source of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. Diets low in Omegas-3 and 6 can contribute to inflammation, which can trigger acne. Salmon is also rich in selenium, a supplement that can potentially protect your skin against harmful UV rays.

Pomegranates
Why? To achieve a healthy glow
Packed full of polyphenols and antioxidants, pomegranates help fight free radicals and can rejuvenate dull, lackluster skin. Pomegranates can also help delay or reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and contribute to a healthy, rosy glow. Eating one pomegranate or drinking a few glasses of its juice throughout the day is a great source of Vitamin C, which also aids in overall digestion.

Walnuts
Why? To soften skin
Walnuts, like salmon, contain high levels of Omega-3s. These fatty acids help lock-in moisture and can assist in keeping the skin elastic and flexible. They are also full of copper, a source that is known to boost collagen levels. Snack on a handful throughout your day to soak up these skin-softening minerals.

Kale
Why? To stock upon antioxidants and beta-carotene
Kale is a super food that is recognized as a wonderful anti-inflammatory. It also contains high levels of vitamins A and C, calcium, and fiber. The beta-carotene it contains can help you maintain a youthful glow and eliminate free radicals. You will also get the added boost of iron. In fact, kale is known to have more iron per calorie than beef.

Blueberries
Why? To normalize oil levels
If you have particularly oily skin, make sure to snack on some blueberries. This tart berry is full of vitamin A, which is great for balancing out your skin’s natural oil levels. They also contain a high level of antioxidants, an essential nutrient to help fight premature aging.

Green Tea
Why? To calm redness
Ladies who suffer from redness can benefit from a few cups of green tea. This powerful tea is high in an antioxidant called EGCG, known to combat redness. Studies have also shown that green tea can reduce inflammation, which can sometimes be a cause of redness.

Eating your way to a healthier complexion is something we all can do. If you can incorporate these foods into your diet you can beon your way to better overall health, wellbeing, and glowing skin.
